Conductor Development

Symphony Australia aims to assist a new group of conductors to reach its potential by providing the highest quality training possible.

Three different types of mastercourse are offered. The first, for 'Core Conductors' offers conductors the opportunity to hone their skills and provides access to Australia's finest symphony orchestras.

Taught by international conductors, this year including course director Christopher Seaman and German conductors Sebastian Lang-Lessing and Johannes Fritzsch, it represents a major investment in Australian talent.

The second, entitled 'The Beat Starts Here', offers school teachers and community conductors the opportunity to improve their conducting skills through a course tailored to their differing levels of experience.

This year taught by Peter Moore and Brett Kelly, all courses take place during school holidays and have in past years proved overwhelmingly popular.

Our 'Scholars' program is for talented schoolchildren who are offered the chance to work with Christopher Seaman and an ensemble of professional musicians.

Christopher Seaman is Course Director of the Conductor Development program. A regular guest conductor of Australian symphony orchestras, he devotes a number of weeks each year to teaching and directing our training programs.

We are delighted to welcome all the guest conductors who will join Christopher Seaman in providing expertise and guidance throughout the year.
