Core Conductors Program
The Core Conductors program is aimed at conductors who wish to make a career of conducting professional orchestras. Course director, British conductor Christopher Seaman, currently spends several weeks each year in Australia teaching aspiring conductors.
In 2008, German maestros Johannes Fritzsch and Sebastian Lang-Lessing join him in the important task of teaching and inspiring the next generation of Australian conductors.
Each mastercourse is tailored specifically, with a mix of orchestral pieces. Most courses include a concerto or a series of arias, so that conductors hone their skills in the important art of accompanying a professional soloist.
Occasionally a course will feature a particular opera, with conductors practising conducting singers and orchestra.
Generally, mastercourse participants will work with professional pianists and ensembles, and, most importantly of all, spend at least one full day working with a full professional symphony orchestra. In 2008, all courses feature at least two days with the orchestra.
A video-recorder is used as a teaching device, with hours outside of podium time spend analysing technique, interpretation and communication skills.
All Core Conductors courses are free to participants, who must apply and undergo a rigorous audition process before being accepted. Travel and accommodation are not provided.
Applications for participation in the 2008 Conductor Development program closed Friday 3 August 2007. Download an application form or contact the Artist Development Manager.
