2008 Keyboard Finalist announced
On Friday 13 June the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards Keyboard Final was held in Brisbane at the Conservatorium Theatre. Pietari Inkinen conducted The Queensland Orchestra as four extremely talented young soloists performed to a packed and house. The audience loved every minute as Oliver She played Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Anne Veinberg played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.4, Alex Raineri played Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and finally, Maxwell Foster played Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1.
And the winner was Maxwell Foster! He receives $5,000, and is also the recipient of the David Paul Landa Scholarship, administered by Musica Viva, which is a $25,000 travelling scholarship.
The concert was broadcast live on ABC Classic FM, and will be repeated later this year. It was recorded for broadcast on ABC Television's Sunday Arts program.
Symphony Australia would like to thank all the people who made last night's concert happen. Especially... everyone at The Queensland Orchestra! It was a great concert. And, our adjudicators, Marshall McGuire, Richard Wenn, Caroline Almonte, Tim Matthies and Pietari Inkinen. Thank you to the ABC for the smooth running of all matters to do with broadcasting and filming, and to everyone at Symphony Australia. Thank you also to our Stage II adjudicators, Virginia Taylor and Stephen Snelleman.
