2008 Other Instruments Finalist announced

An enthusiastic Hobart audience braved wild weather to attend the Other Instruments Final of the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards at the Federation Concert Hall on Thursday 26 June. Marc Taddei conducted the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, as Vivienne Brooke played the Ferlendis/Kraus Concerto for Cor Anglais, Lina Andonovska played Rautavaara's flute concerto, Dances with Winds, Sandy Sin played Koppel's Marimba Concerto No.1 and Jessica Foot played the Strauss Oboe Concerto.

And the winner was Jessica Foot! She receives $5,000 and will perform at the Grand Final at Hamer Hall on 19 September, joining Max Foster, winner of the Keyboards Final, and Rebecca Chan, winner of the Strings Final.

The concert was broadcast live on ABC Classic FM, and will be repeated later this year. It was recorded for broadcast on ABC Television's Sunday Arts program.

Symphony Australia would like to thank all the many people who made last night's concert happen. The TSO played beautifully as usual! Special thanks to Kate Gray and Kate Salvatore, and all at the TSO. It was a brilliant concert. And, a huge thank you to our adjudicators, Marshall McGuire, Simon Rogers, Andrew Barnes, Jo Beaumont and Marc Taddei. Thank you to the ABC for the smooth running of all matters to do with broadcasting and filming, especially the wonderful Damien Beaumont, and to everyone at Symphony Australia. Thank you also to our Stage II adjudicators, Virginia Taylor and Stephen Snelleman.

We look forward to seeing you at the Grand Final on Friday 19 September at 8pm at Melbourne's Hamer Hall, where the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Arvo Volmer.
